CODE OF CONDUCT FOR THE WELFARE OF THE HORSE
The Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) expects all those involved in International Equestrian sport to adhere to the FEI’s Code of Conduct and to acknowledge and accept that at all times the welfare of the horse must be paramount and must never be subordinated to competitive or commercial influences.
1.
At all stages during the preparation and training of competition horses’ welfare must take precedence over all other demands. This includes good horse management, training methods, farriery and tack, and transportation.
2.
Horses and Athletes must be fit, competent and in good health, before they are allowed to compete. This encompasses medication use, surgical procedures that threaten welfare or safety, pregnancy in mares and the misuse of aids.
3.
Events must not prejudice horse welfare. This involves paying careful attention to the competition areas, ground surfaces, weather conditions, stabling, site safety and fitness of the horse for onward travel after the Event.
4.
Every effort must be made to ensure that horses receive proper attention after they have competed and that they are treated humanely when their competition careers are over. This covers proper Veterinary care, competition injuries, euthanasia, and retirement.
5.
The FEI urges all involved with the sport to attain the highest levels of education in their areas of expertise

Unpaid Entries will be deleted after closing date of entries and only restored if there is space in the arena after receipt of the POP.
Bought and Sold Entries will be allowed provided the correct documentation is submitted within the correct time frames and the original rider has signed the form. Bought and Sold /Entries will only be allowed provided the OC does not have a waiting list to fulfill first. Please contact the OC before selling entries.
There will be no buying and selling of entries after the 1 September 2026. Forms received thereafter will not be accepted.

REFUNDS: No Refunds will be given after closing date of entries. Entries withdrawn before close of date will be refunded. However, due to inclement weather conditions or other unforeseen circumstances, should it necessitate cancelling a class or classes, 80% of the entry fee will be refunded.

RESTRICTIONS: A horse may only compete in One class per day (National) and 2 classes per day (Provincial) with a maximum of 3 classes at the event for CSN classes. Should your entry be deleted for non-payment, the entry will not be restored based on when it was initially done but will be based on when it was paid for. If the arenas are full, it will be added to the waiting list. Horses may only compete in ONE Championship at the event.
NOMINATIONS: Declarations for the 1st class close at 12noon on 2 September 2026 Riders who fail to make this declaration in time will automatically be entered in the same class as entered on the SASJ Entry system. Declarations will close 30 min after the end of the last open class on each day. Riders who fail to make this declaration in time will automatically be entered in the same height they rode in the previous class. STARTING FEES: MCP Fees for Maxwell’s FEI World Cup QUALIFIER

SUBSTITUTIONS: A substitution is a change of EITHER a horse or rider. Provincial classes with a Composite entry fee: Should a horse need to be substituted it may be substituted ONCE per entry only (if a composite entry of 3 classes, only ONE change may be done). Should a rider need to be substituted and the entry consists of a composite entry of 3 classes, the rider may be changed more than once. All substitutions must be given to the show holder on the correct forms, signed by all the correct parties, a minimum of 30 minutes before the start of the relevant class. National classes: A substitution may only take place ONCE, before the horse inspection. Should there be NO horse inspection, a substitution may only take place ONCE, by midday on the day before the National classes start, thereafter, NO substitutions will be permitted. All substitutions must be given to the Show Holder on the correct forms, signed by all the correct parties. DRESS: As per Article 207 DRESS and HEADGEAR (FEI Jumping Regulations)

Initial Bedding will be provided, additional bedding will be available to purchase at R50 per bag. The allocation of stabling accommodation is carried out by the Show Director and under no circumstances may any competitor change his/her stabling accommodation or alter the stabling list without prior consultation with, and approval of, the Show director. Failure to comply could involve disqualification of the horse concerned. Stables will be allocated to out of Province rider first, on a first come first paid basis. Competitors wishing to be stabled with others should indicate this by e-mailing retha@tbgequine.co.za, however, please bear in mind that if the person you are wanting to be stabled with has booked early and you have booked late or vice versa this allocation may not be possible as stables are allocated strictly on a first booked and paid for basis.
ACCESS: All horseboxes and floats must be parked in the allocated areas provided.

Anyone competing in FEI competitions must use the FEI HorseApp to upload documents, record horse temperatures and certify the
health status of their horse(s). All athletes, grooms, vets, officials, organising committees, endurance trainers and owners need to
be aware of the horse health requirements and use the FEI HorseApp to fulfil these requirements in accordance with the FEI
2025 Veterinary Regulations for all FEI events both in the UK and worldwide. Violations and sanctions are in place for failure to
submit the correct data on time, which are connected to the horse profile and not the athlete. This is important to note in the event
of a horse being ridden by multiple riders. All sanctions will be sent to the Person Responsible, so it is vital that they submit all the
required data. There are different views and different types of data to be captured within the app depending on who you are.
In accordance with the FEI Veterinary Regulations 2026, a number of horse health requirements have been put in place to protect FEI horses and global equestrian sports from the consequences of infectious diseases being transmitted before, during and after FEI events. This provides reassurance of the high health of sporthorses to global, continental and national veterinary authorities and organisations, and will maintain and further improve the conditions for international movement of sporthorses.
The FEI HorseApp now records all equine influenza vaccination details.
More information can be found on the FEI website: FEI horse health requirements PASSPORTS: All horses must be in possession of their FEI Passports or SAEF Group IX Passports at all shows. Inspections, sampling, and random passport checks may take place at any event.
SAMPLING (SAEF & FEI VETERINARY REGULATIONS): ‘EQUINE TESTING All horses or ponies competing at SASJ and/or FEI Events may be subject to sampling for the presence of Prohibited Substances in accordance with the Anti-Doping and Controlled Medication Regulations (EADCMRs). Horses or ponies may be selected for sampling in accordance with the obligatory testing, targeted or random sampling procedures. MCP testing as per SAEF Regulations will be done by the appointed Testing Vet. Laboratory: National Horse Racing Authority, Turffontein Racecourse, Turf Club Street. VACCINATIONS:
SOUTH AFRICAN EQUESTRIAN FEDERATION REGULATIONS ON PASSPORTS, EQUINE INFLUENZA & AFRICAN HORSE SICKNESS. HORSES’ ELIGIBILITY TO COMPETE – SAEF VETERINARY REGULATIONS Article 1001 – Equine Identification Horses or Ponies that do not have FEI Passports must have a SAEF Group IX Passport to compete in South Africa. 1. Person Responsible (PRs) must comply with the requirements for national and SAEF Passports, Recognition Cards and registration for Events as described in the General Regulations. Summary of SAEF VETERINARY REGULATIONS - AHS and EQUINE FLU REGULATIONS Please check for any Updated SAEF Vaccination Directives EQUINE INFLUENZA UPDATE UPDATED DIRECTIVE 07032026 – DISPENSATION INFLUENZA (FLU) VACCINATION The SAEF Executive have agreed to the following dispensation which will come into effect from the 1st April 2026, and remain in effect unless rescinded by the SAEF, due to an outbreak of Equine Influenza in the country or other circumstances that may occur requiring more frequent vaccination. All horses born after the 1st January 2020, or horses that have not previously received vaccination will be required to demonstrate the administration of the Primary Equine Influenza Course of V1, V2 and V3 as set out in the SAEF/FEI Veterinary Regulations as per the rules prior to 1st January 2024, or as per the rules from the 1st January 2024. All vaccinations must be administered by a Veterinarian and entered, signed and stamped by the administering Veterinarian in the horses passport. Following the Primary course, horses will be required to be vaccinated once a year. You may not exceed 365 days in a normal year or 366 days in a leap year. However, if a calendar year is exceeded between annual vaccination, the Primary Course will have to be repeated. No vaccination may be administered in the 7 days preceding any event that the horse may be entered into, or attend a measuring session.. All horses born prior to 1st January 2020, must demonstrate a minimum of 6 annual vaccinations, with an interval not exceeding 1 year between vaccinations, and administered by a registered veterinarian to avoid having to complete the Primary Course. If a year was exceeded between 2019 and 2020, a Primary vaccination is required. *********VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO FEI RIDERS - FEI HORSES ARE NOT EXCEMPTED ******** Please note: Horses registered with the FEI and competing in FEI events are not exempt from vaccination under this dispensation. All FEI registered horses MUST be vaccinated by a REGISTERED veterinarian with Equine Influenza vaccine within 6 months and 21 days of competition. All horses must have had a PRIMARY Course of Equine Influenza (Only Exception are horses that have been vaccinated every year without a primary course since 2005) VACCINE 1 (V1) First Vaccine of the Primary Course. Horse is Not eligible to compete. VACCINE 2 (V2) First Booster. Administered between 21 – 60 days after V1. (prior to January 2024 = 21 – 92 days) Horse will be eligible to compete after 7 days. VACCINE 3 (V3) Second Booster of the PRIMARY Course administered WITHIN 6 months after V2. (Prior to January 2024 within 7 months of V2) these horses vaccinated prior to January 1 January 2024, according to the protocol in place at the time, are no required to redo their primary Vaccinations) NB: NO HORSE MAY COMPETE FOR 7 DAYS FOLLOWING ANY VACCINATION All horses must have their Equine Influenza Primary Course Vaccinations recorded in their latest FEI Group IX Passport by 30th April 2024. If a horses passport is found upon inspection, to not have the Equine Influenza Primary Course Vaccination recorded, the horse will not be eligible to compete in a competition. Please note below the wording to be used by the veterinarian, for the vaccination history to be transferred to the latest FEI Group IX Passport: The vaccination history and primary course of this horse is correct to date in accordance with the FEI Veterinary Regulations. Last Vaccination on 00/00/00 date > Must be signed, stamped and dated by the veterinarian. The last vaccination in the previous passport must be transcribed into the new passport by the veterinarian. AFRICAN HORSE SICKNESS (AHS) African Horse Sickness is a controlled disease in South Africa, and as such the State Veterinary Department must be notified of any positive cases. According to the Government “Animal Diseases Act 35 of 1984” all Equidae must be vaccinated against AHS annually, (except in the controlled AHS Zones of the Western Cape)

The only vaccine currently registered in terms of Fertilizers, Farm Feeds, Agricultural Remedies and Stock Remedies Act 1947 (Act no 36 of 47) for AHS and therefore the only efficient/effective remedy “as described above is the live virus vaccine produced by Onderstepoort Biological Products (OBP). For Competition purposes the following apply:
i) As per the directive issued on the 8th August 2024, for competition purposes in the AHS infected zone, horses must have received at least ONE AHS Bottle 1 and one AHS bottle 2 vaccine between 1 June 2022 and 1 December 2025
ii) From 1 December 2025 for competition purposes in the AHS infected zone, horses must have received at least one AHS 1 and one AHS 2 vaccine in a calendar year. (i.e. between 1 January and 31st December each year)
iii) Horses residing in the AHS Controlled area within the AHS free and surveillance zones of the Cape do not require AHS vaccination in order to compete. However, should these horses leave the AHS controlled area, they will require vaccination against AHS as described in i) and ii) above. For movement into the AHS controlled area of the Western Cape, a horse must have received its AHS vaccinations within 24 months of entry. Any changes to this requirement will be communicated by DALRRD and is outside the administrative control of SAEF.
iv) Horse residing within the AHS protection zone require AHS vaccination in order to compete both within the AHS controlled area and, within the AHS infected zone as described in i) and ii).
v) The only accepted registered vaccine for competition purposes is the Onderstepoort Biological Products vaccine, as it is currently the only registered vaccine against AHS in terms of the “Farm Feeds, Agricultural Remedies and Stock Remedies Act 1947 (Act 36 of 47)
vi) AHS vaccines must be supplied and administered by a registered veterinarian, who is required to sign and stamp the passport as part of the vaccination certification.
vii) The current AHS vaccine is an attenuated live vaccine supplied in 2 bottles AHS1 and AHS2. The two vaccine bottles must be administered at least 3 (three) weeks apart. If vaccines are given less than 3 weeks apart, both vaccines are invalidated, making the horse ineligible to compete and compromising its welfare. Research has shown that leaving a longer interval between vaccines is better for producing greater immunity.
viii) In the AHS infected zone, it is strongly recommended that horses are not vaccinated during periods of high midge prevalence due to the risk of vaccine virus transmission by the midge vector.
ix) AHS vaccination is only allowed in the AHS controlled area between 1st June and 31st October each year due to the transmission risk. Owners wishing to have their horses vaccinated against African Horse Sickness in the Free and Surveillance zones of Western Cape for competition purposes outside the 2 zones, must contact the state vet in the Western Cape for permission to vaccinate. As per 24th June 2025 SAEF AHS Directive: Check SAEF for any updates as they are closely monitoring the situation. FEI REGULATIONS ON PASSPORTS (FEI GENERAL REGULATIONS ART. 137) For all issues relating to FEI Horse Passports/FEI Recognition Cards please contact your National Federation. All Horses competing at FEI Events must be registered with the FEI for the current year. FEI Passports or FEI Recognition Cards (for those Horses with a national passport approved by the FEI) are compulsory for FEI Events. FEI REGULATIONS ON EQUINE INFLUENZA (FEI VETERINARY REGULATIONS ART. 1003) Horses competing at FEI Events must comply with the requirements for Equine Influenza vaccination in accordance with the Veterinary Regulations. All FEI registered Horses intending to compete at FEI Events (including CIMs) must be vaccinated against Equine Influenza in accordance with these Veterinary Regulations. The exception being if the applicable domestic legislation prevents the use of Equine Influenza vaccines within the relevant territory.

PROTESTS & APPEALS:
As per General Regulations. All protests and Objections must be done in writing within the required timelines and in receipt of a deposit of the relevant fee.
Rules, Regulations, Terms and Conditions applicable to all FEI, SASJ National & Provincial Classes
COMPETITION CLASSES All classes will be run under the applicable FEI Rule unless otherwise stated in the SASJ Annexures. HORSE VACCINATIONS It is the Athlete/Owners responsibility to ensure that they comply with the control measures of AHS and EQUINE FLU as per SAEF Regulations and are in the horses’ passports which must always accompany the horse/pony MICROCHIP NO’s Microchip numbers must be in the horse’s passport and SASJ Online System LIABILTY The FEI, SASJ, SAEF, The OC/SHB, Venue, Officials and sponsors shall in no way be held responsible for any damage, loss, theft, or injury sustained by owners, riders, competitors, horses, members or the public or any other person or their property whatsoever. E&OE CHANGES TO CLASSES The organising committee in consultation with the SASJ Representative reserve the right to combine, handicap, divide or cancel classes should this be necessary, always provided such amendments are not in conflict with the rules. Where necessary, classes may be restricted to qualifications. 80% of entry fees will be refunded should the class/s be cancelled due to inclement weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. The organising committee reserves the right to cancel, combine, limit, or divide classes or change arenas. Lower grade/provincial entries may be restricted, or classes cancelled, depending on number of entries. Recommended rounds per day will be in consultation with the President of the Ground Jury and SASJ Rep. Any classes that are combined will be on a handicap basis. Changes made at/during the show will be at the SHB’s discretion in consultation with the Ground Jury. This also applies to adverse weather conditions. Entry Fees will not be refunded to any competitor in the event of any competition being changed to a different time, day, or different arena. The onus is on the rider to ensure their contact details are correct on the SASJ Database to receive any emails, and to check the SASJ Website for any changes to the schedule/programme. Any changes made to the programme once the final programme is published will be published on the SASJ website www.sashowjumping.co.za or sent out via newsflash. ATHLETES Athletes are to be registered with a Club, SAEF and SASJ as per Annexures on the SASJ Database. HORSES/PONIES Horses/Ponies need to be registered with SASJ as per SASJ Annexures on the SASJ Database ELECTRONIC TIMING SASJ National FDS/Vola Timing Equipment – is required for all National and FEI Events and is the responsibility of the OC in conjunction with the timekeeper to organize, collect and return the equipment. STALLIONS All stallions should have a yellow disc on both sides of the bridle or have a yellow ribbon in the tail. ADVERTISING SPONSORS – ATHLETES & HORSES Athletes are to ensure that any sponsored Saddlecloths or Athlete Wear they compete in during the event – that the Sponsors are registered with SASJ for the current year and sizes of logos are in accordance with articles 256.3 and 257.3 of the FEI Jumping Rules The Chief Steward will check that the advertising on athletes and horses comply with these articles. GROOMS Riders are requested to provide sleeping accommodation for their grooms as there are no facilities for this purpose. Please note that the lighting of fires or smoking in the stable areas is strictly forbidden. Kindly inform your grooms. Ablutions are

available in the stable area for grooms. There are electricity outlets at the stable area. Water is precious – please be aware of water wastage and help us to conserve water where possible
